Summary: Marcello, a young man who hears music that no one else can, is forced to leave the protected environment of his special school and work during the summer at his father's law firm. His father hopes that this will 'normalize' Marcello, enabling him to deal with the real world. Marcello quickly finds himself in the middle of several moral dilemmas. If he makes the right choices, he may lose out on what he wants the most.
Review: This book did an excellent job with portraying events from the viewpoint of an autistic person. The plot fell a bit flat; however, this was possible intentional since the story is told from Marcello's view and he doesn't feel much emotion. The simplistic voice that is used is refreshing and original but some readers may find it difficult to connect emotionally to the story.
Final Thought: I do recommend the book. The lack of emotional baggage makes it an uncomplicated read for struggling readers.
